Symphony Orchestra

leader Oliver Nelson

Philip Ellis conductor

This year the Symphony Orchestra will be directed by the eminent conductor Philip Ellis. Philip has an international reputation for inspirational music making and his diverse musical interests are reflected in the repertoire chosen for his first visit to Sherborne. The Third Symphony of  Arnold Bax is at the heart of our week and this will be complimented by orchestral masterpieces by Bernstein, Tchaikovsky, Copland,  Kabalevsky and Richard Strauss.

The Symphony Orchestra is intended to meet the needs of music students and very experienced amateurs.  Repertoire from the list below will be chosen for the summer school’s final concert in Sherborne Abbey.
