Philip Ellis conductor

After a stunning debut with the Symphony Orchestra last year, the eminent conductor Philip Ellis will join us again in 2018.  Philip has an international reputation for inspirational music making and his diverse musical interests are reflected in the repertoire chosen for his second visit to Sherborne. The Fifth Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich is at the heart of our week, this will be complemented by orchestral masterpieces by Bernstein, Elgar, Rachmaninov, Bridge and Richard Strauss.

The Symphony Orchestra is intended to meet the needs of music students and very experienced amateurs.  Repertoire from the list below will be chosen for the summer school’s final concert in Sherborne Abbey.
