Week 1

The World of Wind Chamber Music

(Including works with piano)

Sarah Francis oboe, Ian Mitchell clarinet

and Wendy Phillips bassoon

We are delighted to host a Wind Chamber Music course at the summer school once again. Drawing on their vast experience as soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians, Sarah Francis, Ian Mitchell and Wendy Phillips will offer specialist coaching in a wide range of wind chamber music, including works for winds and piano. The course is intended for players of an advanced standard with good sight reading abilities (flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns and pianos) enrolling either as pre-formed ensembles or as individuals.

Intensive coaching in a supportive atmosphere will be undertaken on the rehearsal and performance techniques specifically related to the genre, including balance, tuning, ensemble, voicing, breathing and communication. This will be achieved primarily through the exploration of a variety of works for different combinations from trio to dectet. Students may suggest works for consideration.

The course will culminate in an informal public concert on the final afternoon of the week

.

In order to facilitate balancing early application is recommended, and when making an application, please indicate on the enrolment form any doubling instruments you are able to bring.
