Jeremy writes:
The Sherborne ‘Time Travel Machine’ takes us back to the 16th century for stellar anthems by an ebullient William Byrd and a “wonderfully weepy” Thomas Weelkes. Zoom forward a century for thrilling music for the theatre which was inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, Henry Purcell’s, fantastic in every sense of the word, The Fairy Queen! You’ll have to race another hundred years for captivating cathedral music by the master, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and yet another thrust will bring us to the lyrical and beautiful part-songs by Robert Schumann. A little more throttle and we’re in our own time with a pot-pourri by two of today’s finest contemporary composers, Bob Chilcott and Jussi Chydenius; plus a brand new piece inspired by the Summer School’s Choral Masterpieces Course singers. Come and sing what you helped us create!
