He has an extensive recording catalogue and has received particular acclaim for his recordings with the soprano Lesley Garrett. Philip believes passionately in amateur music making and has worked continuously with amateur and community orchestras throughout his career.

He is currently principal conductor of the West Forest Sinfonia and was until recently principal conductor of the Jersey Symphony Orchestra.


Philip Ellis   Since winning first prize at the Leeds International Conductors’ Competition in 1991 Philip has established a reputation as one of Britain’s most versatile conductors.


In this country he has worked with all the major London and provincial orchestras including broadcasts and television appearances with all the BBC orchestras. Abroad he has a busy schedule with orchestras in France, Belgium, Holland, Hong Kong, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia and Germany. He is well known for his work as a ballet conductor and has   conducted performances with the orchestras of the Royal Opera House in London, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestra of La Scala Milan, the Paris Opera Orchestra and the Turin Opera Orchestra.
